For the past 15 years, we have had the great pleasure of being entrusted to assist organizations in both the public and private sectors in their important and significant work on gender equality and sustainability. We work with industries and clients to promote increased gender equality and inclusivity. We have extensive experience working with sectors such as regional associations, education, forestry, gaming, transportation, and municipalities. We are a cluster of enablers for norm change and self-organizing inclusion. We call ourselves norm engineers. Since 2008, we have created enabling workspaces, strong brands, and sustainable business models in all sectors. Our motivated and specialized norm engineers are equipped with a wealth of diverse experiences and training in all areas of diversity.

ADD GENDER & THE NORM ENGINEERS

We now have over 140 certified norm engineers in our constantly growing network. This quantity makes us Sweden’s largest and broadest collection of consultants and experts in diversity and gender equality. As a quality assurance measure, all our consultants are certified norm engineers through a well-proven and evaluated course that runs for six months. Here, the prospective norm engineer is trained, among other things, in our unique approach, which is based on the Codex of the Norm Engineer’s, with accompanying handbook. All certified norm engineers learn to navigate with Add Gender’s unique approach. The work method is partly inspired by all determined developers of norms and current research on norm change for modern and inclusive values, always towards the UN’s Agenda 2030 and prevailing anti-discrimination legislation.

OUR FIELD CODEX

The Codex of the Norm Engineer’s  is our common pathfinder. At Add Gender, we always work based on our field codex and keep the pedagogy alive. The codex contains 20 points that help norm engineers collaborate on assignments and have the courage and stamina to enable a shift that may seem impossible to others. For example, when we work with interviews and qualitative methods, point 2 of the field codex is an important guideline:

THE NORM ENGINEER’S APPROACH

Characteristics of the norm engineer’s approach is that a norm engineer does not stop at the symptoms, but traces problems back to their source and welcomes the honesty that opens up for values. We want to be and operate where people think and have opinions. We believe that reason leads to conclusions, but that it’s only the heart that leads to real change. History gives us our lessons, the present provides us with the tools we need, and our self-developed tool, the Norm Platform, is the arena where we co-create the future.

Typical of our approach is that we are bold but always gentle. We are determined but also humble, we are proud but never satisfied. We understand both the benefit of curiosity and the need for work to be operationally useful. We are convinced of the leverage effect of a point effort.

An archaeologist digs to show how something was; a norm engineer digs to show how something could be. Characteristic of us is that we meet resistance with open arms. We believe in generosity and collaboration, we assume that with great knowledge comes increased responsibility. We confirm and embrace diversity, inclusion and equality. Our conviction lies in that we realize things best together with our different senses in a connected network. We are constantly ready to change our course; the compass shows us the direction but not the obstacles on our way.

As a customer, the hands on the rodder are yours, but as norm engineers, we will help you navigate. We want to include, travel together for a while, and together spread both adventures and good examples, which for us are like windows to reality and a desired future. When reality scares us or when the desired future feels hard to imagine, we are here to remind you of the purpose of the journey. It makes us endure a little longer.

OUR CUSTOMERS

In our repertoire, we have several exciting assignments and projects, both on our own initiative and in collaboration with partners and clients. A large customer group for us is Sweden’s public sector, where the focus is on implementing traditional gender mainstreaming methods in an innovative way. We also work with companies in the private sector within industries such as IT, entertainment, forestry, gaming, sales, and architecture. Our experience in equal treatment ranges from large organizations and actors such as regional associations, municipalities, and major corporations, but also within non-profit organizations or small business owners.
